It’s the season of parties and gatherings, and we couldn’t be more excited! Here, at Gelatiamo, we offer an extra special treat to add to your holiday tradition, Maria’s Panettone.

We are proud to have been the first bakery in Seattle to make panettone in 1996. Panettone is an Italian sweet bread usually eaten during the holidays. Our recipe has been img_9316passed down by Maria’s family for several generations. 20 years ago, when Gelatiamo had its first winter, Maria’s father worked many hours to modify their family panettone recipe for Maria’s Seattle kitchen (which was necessary because Maria did not have all of the baking equipment). The adjustments made by Maria’s father created an equally delicious result, a buttery, sweet, fluffy bread filled with candied oranges, lemon peel, and plump raisins! The new recipe did not shorten the amount of time it takes to produce her babies (as Maria lovingly calls them). Our panettone rises five times and takes 27 hours before it even goes in the oven. The tradition behind our panettone and it’s impeccable taste is worth all of the effort and patience it requires to make them.

Our panettone has also created quite the buzz in Seattle.

  • Sunset Magazine included us in their December Issue in “A Guide to What’s Happening in Your Neighborhood” for downtown Seattle.
  • King 5 Evening Magazine featured us in a video which explains Maria’s panettone process.
  • And Seattle Met wrote the loveliest article. Read it here.

If you haven’t already purchased yours be sure to come in and/or call us… they are selling out fast!
